BB Guns For Kids

The second constitutional amendment allows for citizens of the Unites States to carry a weapon for self-defense. This amendment was set in place after the Americans had a less than pleasant experience when the British troops often mercilessly attacked civilian towns with no military defense. The only true defense that the towns had was the men, the farmers who out of the nature of their work and the times, always carried with them guns. So it was these civilians who often formed small armies and utilized their own personal weaponry in order to protect themselves, their families and their property. This idea carried over after the war and the founding fathers decided it was important that all men be able to defend their homes in case the government rose up against its people and invaded their homes.
Today the situation is quite different. The fear of government oppressing its own people has withdrawn and faded from the hearts of Americans. However, the second amendment remains and to this day, every certified and licensed citizen has the right to carry a weapon for protection. This protection is much more personal now. It is protection against robbers, murderers, attackers and many other types of criminals. The issue of course, is always that the more people carry guns, the more likely someone will get shot and killed. However, the opposite side argues the evident decrease in crime rates in areas where safe responsible individuals carry licensed weapons. When criminals know that any given person they may attack will be carrying a weapon for protection, they are much less likely to attack. However, the key words are always safe and responsible. The bad wrap that guns have, do so because people are careless with their weapons and do not take the time to be safe with them.

BB Guns For Kids

The best way to have citizens that are responsible weapon carriers and users is to train them of the safety when they are young children. However, no one will give a ten year old child a real gun. To circumvent this problem,  there are BB guns for kids. BB guns are generically identical to real weapons and can, if used incorrectly, cause serious damage. However, they are much safer than real guns and they are also a great way to ease a child into the proper uses of a weapon.
BB guns essentially assimilate a child into correct use, storage, safety features, ways to fix, and overall proper utilization of a gun. The great thing for kids is that BB guns are very realistic so the kids will feel like they are carrying a certain amount of responsibility, which is a great way to start off teaching anyone about handling a gun.

Fun BB guns for kids

Besides the obvious lessons in safety and proper use, BB guns for kids are also very fun. They can be a great way for parents to bond with their kids by taking them out to small private shooting range, by ordering new parts for the gun, but cleaning the gun together and going to stores to look at various other options. BB guns for kids are also great because kids will have fun not only with their parents with it but once they are properly trained, they can go shooting with friends, they can go hunting for small animals (to learn proper hunting techniques and etiquette). Most of all, it will get the kids out of the house and outside into the woods. Essentially, it is a great way to get your kids away from the TV, away from the computer games and into real life, fresh air and healthy exercise.

BB guns for kids safety

BB guns for kids come with various safety features such as safety button that disallowed the discharge of the bullet. Some BB guns for kids have locks where parents can either lock the barrel of the gun from firing or they can completely take out an entire chunk of the gun so that it is dismantled. This is a great way for parents to keep check of how their kids are using the BB gun, and if they disobey or do something unsafe and against the rules they can learn the consequences.

BB guns for kids types

BB gun stores have many variations and choices for BB guns for kids. These range from rifle and shotgun type BB guns to pistol and various caliber types of weapons. The parents and kids can decide what will be best for the child and which type of gun will best fit the purpose of the purchase. Some kids have various types of BB guns for kids so that they can become acquainted with the safety, security, and proper use of many types of guns. This is actually another wonderful aspect of buying BB guns for kids.

In this day and age, you never know who your child will run into. And if its a criminal on the streets, in the parking lot, on the road or at the gas station, if your child has had safe exposure to various types of BB guns for kids, they can recognize what type of weapon is being pointed at them, and respond accordingly. Essentially, the safe assimilation of a child to weaponry through using BB guns for kids, allows the child not only to protect themselves with a weapon but know exactly what kind of danger they are facing.
Ultimately, no parent wants to think that their child will ever be faced with something as awful as a gun point. However, the reality of the situation is that it does happen and the best thing to do is to prepare the child for various types of circumstances. The best way to do this is to introduce children to BB guns for kids and teach them how to properly handle, use and respond to guns. While teaching them valuable safety lessons, and how to properly handle and care for guns, BB guns for kids will also allow the kids to have fun with their parents and with their likewise, gun-safe friends.

Many people would argue that the best first bb gun for kids is an airsoft gun. Airsoft guns can be great for teaching you child how to use a firearm without exposing the child to danger. Many people (including me) will go out and shoot at each other with airsoft guns. (with safety goggles ofcorce)

When teaching my child how to operate a firearm I used an airsoft gun. I told him very strictly that even thought its not a real gun to never point or shoot it at a person. Once he learns to use a real gun he will already have safe gun habits. I can teach him how to use a gun knowing that my child is still safe even if he accidentally shoots the gun at himself wile learning.

Nonetheless, here are some airsoft guns for kids reviews:

Daisy BB Guns for Kids

BB Guns for Kids

bb guns for kidsWant to buy BB guns? If your young son or daughter is ready for a first gun, you can’t go far wrong getting him or her a little spring activated BB gun. Just to be clear:  we are NOT talking about airsoft guns.  Those are lots of fun, but these Daisy guns shoot steel BBs, and are spring air powered.  (We’ll talk about other pump up options later.)

So I would go for Daisy bb guns. Daisy guns have been entertaining kids – and adults – for a century or more. For simplicity and ease of use and inexpensive pricing, they can’t be beat.

As a boy, I had several different Daisy air rifles, and wore them all out. Thousands of hours of fun and excitement, shooting targets and hunting “bad birds” like English sparrows and starlings. As American as Old Glory and apple pie.

Just to clear up some terms, here. The little spring air operated guns I shot as a boy were not “air rifles”, strictly speaking. They were smooth bore guns that did not use air compressed by pumping or in CO2 gas cartridges to propel the .177 steel BBs. Instead, a spring when compressed shot air behind the bb, sending it out the barrel at fairly modest speeds. So, they didn’t have a lot of power, but as we got older and had more experience under our belts, we moved up to true air rifles, shooting lead pellets at higher speeds.

There is a daisy air rifle or two which are powerful enough to take small game like rabbits and squirrels. In my opinion, those should be not given to younger kids until they are ready for the
responsibility, and have adult supervision.

My dad was a stickler for safely, so we were well instructed. And we were given to understand that doing dumb things with our bb guns would cost more than we were willing to risk – losing our guns altogether.

Tin cans made good targets. Circles scrawled on cardboard worked too. Once we got used to our guns and could shoot them reasonably well, we went after the pest variety birds. One neighbor who hated the sparrows that ate his chicken feed paid me a penny a piece for each one I killed on his property. I thought that was pretty neat, and those pennies paid for my ammo. In those days, a little cellophane pack of 100 copper-plated BBs sold for a nickel.

There are three Daisy bb guns we liked best. These were the Daisy model 25, a pump action gun that boys like me thought the most powerful of the spring air guns. Another was the Daisy Red Ryder, a lever action model, and then the Daisy Buck bb gun, the cheapest of all and a little low, we thought, on the power side. I’ll say a little about each one.

Daisy BB Guns for Kids

The Daisy Model 25 BB Gun

daisy 25 bb guns for kidsThis was the best bb gun in my opinion, my favorite of them all. It was a pump action, and mine had a plastic stock and forearm grip. Some earlier models had wood. You had to unscrew the tube that held the BBs, and move the spring to expose the hole where you dropped the ammo in. Screw the ammo tube back into the end of the barrel, grab the pump grip and slide it toward you – cocking the gun, and you were ready to shoot. If I remember correctly, you had about 50 shots before reloading.

The Model 25  has a long tradition with Daisy and the American shooting public. In production here for over 60 years, millions were sold. Vintage guns in good shape can sell today for as much as 200 dollars or more. My first one during the fifties I got for $9.95. Now you can buy currently manufactured ones (made overseas) for under 50. A heck of a bargain.

The Daisy model 25 is powerful enough to take larger birds like barn pigeons and turtle doves, provided you hit them in their more vulnerable areas, like the upper body or wing. I even managed as a boy to stalk several cottontail rabbits and kill them by hitting them in the head.  Small pond frogs like leopard frogs could also be gotten with the 25, but the big bullfrogs were too tough and we learned not to waste our time with them. When I got older, we took those with 22 rifles.

The Daisy model 25 is surprisingly accurate, considering the fact that it is a smooth bore. I had a buddy who was a sure shot. I saw him hit dimes from 20 to 30 feet away. That’s pretty good shootin’. When my dad managed lumber yards, he would take us down to the lumber bins to go after the English sparrows that were leaving their mess on the lumber. We’d go at night. One person held the flashlight, while the other would shoot. The birds roosting in the framing would freeze in the light, and presented easy targets – even though they are small birds.

I really loved my old 25, and I think you might just like one as much as I did (oops, your son or daughter?).

Take a look at the Daisy Model 25 and see what you think.

Daisy Red Ryder

red ryder bb gun for kidsThis Daisy bb gun was probably even more widely owned and used by my boyhood friends than my own favorite gun. This is a lever action model, sturdily built and capable of giving countless hours and years of service, if cared for properly. This gun has a large BB chamber, so you can “load on Sunday and shoot all week.”

Customer reviews rave over this gun, and many are bought by older guys out of nostalgia for the days of shooting fun they had as kids. The Daisy Red Ryderis quite accurate for a simple bb gun, and is a pleasure to shoot. It will shoot through a pop can, break a glass bottle and give some serious damage to troublesome pest birds or rats on your property.

One reviewer wrote: “While not the most powerful or accessorized BB gun, this classic rifle is still on the market for a reason. Good simple fun. It’s elegant, uncomplicated, and VERY accurate. It’s ideal for shooting targets at ranges up to about 30 feet or so. I generally shoot mine from 20 feet, and even from that distance it will pierce aluminum cans. Very easy; you just cock, aim, and shoot. This is good gun to introduce someone to BB guns and gun safety, or even for experienced veterans who just want to have some fun.”

Like all Daisy spring air guns, this gun could be used on targets in the back yard, with appropriate backdrops. (If you live in town, check local regulations.) Or a basement range could be set up, if you prefer. A cardboard box filled with newspapers makes a good target setup. And you can use the BBs over again.

I believe the Daisy Red Ryder is a great, inexpensive choice for your youngster.

Daisy Buck BB Gun

daisy buck bb gun for kidsThis little gun gave us lots of fun on the farm. It sure did a number on those pesky sparrows. I bought my last one many years ago for the hefty price of six dollars. You will pay more than that now, of course, but it is still very inexpensive.

This is a small simple basic model, a beginners gun in both price and ease of operation. The Daisy Buck, however, is no longer an all steel manufacture. Some parts are plastic, and have given some consumers breakage problems. However, to be fair, others have bought and used the Daisy Buck with no problems, and consider it a steal at the low price. My guess is that careful handling may eliminate the chance of breakage, my opinion.

The Buck is like a smaller, plainer version of the Red Ryder. It too is a lever action, and has a large BB reservoir.
